Beaujolais Nouvaeu! 🍷
We're delighted to announce the arrival of arguably the most important vino-related event of the year, Beaujolais Nouveau Day! 🍇🇫🇷🍇
Held annually on every third Thursday in November, Beaujolais Nouveau celebrates the first wine harvest of the season in what started out as a small observance in France - but is now a worldwide event, with distributors racing to get the freshest wine out first (at its peak in the 1980s, U.K. shops sold over 760,000 bottles per year) 🤯
Fermented for just a few weeks before being bottled, Beaujolais Nouveau aka Bojo Nuvo aka Nuvo wines (depending on how cool you are 😎) are all about vivid, natural, bright flavour ✨ Owing its easy drinkability to a winemaking process called carbonic maceration (also known as whole-berry fermentation) which sees them ferment without oxygen. Often grapes are placed in vats, which are then sealed and filled with Carbon Dioxide remove the oxygen, which sees the fruit burst, releasing the juices by themselves. This technique in turn preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the grapes without extracting bitter tannins from the grape skins 👌
As such we love the fact it's not just for nerds like us, but a super approachable style, that developed around a century ago once as a cheap and cheerful drink produced by locals to celebrate the end of Autumn! 🍂
All best served slightly chilled around 13-14°C these are stupidly drinkable, with a bubblegum tinge thanks to the magic of the aforementioned carbonic maceration!🪄
To honour the 2023 vintage we'll have a variety of different treats across the shops, available in-person only from open on Thursday at midday.
Bottles are available for pre-order here on the webshop and will be delivered on the big day! 🚛📦
Glou Glou! 🍷
