Found just off the idyllic coast Skye since 2017, the Isle of Raasay Distillery has quickly established itself as a pioneering, crucially independent force in the spirits world.
Named Scottish Whisky Distillery of the Year at the Scottish Whisky Awards and Craft Producer of the Year at the 2025 World Whisky Awards their regard has only increased in recent years.
With a focus local production, quality, and doing things differently, they use historic, mineral-rich water from the Tobar na Bà Bàine or the Well Of The Pale Cow, just meters behind them, with everyone who works at the distillery living on Raasay, a small island of just 161 people.
Having worked with them for a number of years, we're incredibly proud to have chosen our own Single Cask Whisky for release, a peated ex Pedro Ximenez Sherry Quarter Cask, of just 165 bottles.
The water originates as rain falling on Dùn Cana (the island's highest peak), flowing across volcanic rock and filtering through 60 meters of Jurassic sandstone directly into the deep well beneath the Isle of Raasay Distillery.
Aiding in yeast development their base spirited is fermented at a high temperature, for unique dark berry flavours, atop a malt bill of 100% Scottish Malted Barley.
With aromas of peppery spice, sweet fruits and deep nutty flavours, there's gentle smoky peat notes (about a fifth of what you'd find from Islay Whisk), and a lovely luscious finish, aided (in our opinion) by just a drop of water for your Draam.
Really though this is a Whisky to drink rather than talk about, so Sláinte!
